5 Tips To Survive the Coronavirus Pandemic

COVID-19 is a disease caused by a new coronavirus strand which was first discovered in Wuhan, China in November 2019. On 11th March WHO (The World Health Organisation) declared the outbreak as a pandemic.

  1. Stay indoors

The safest way to survive the coronavirus is to stay indoors and not leave the house for anything. This is possible if you are not an essential worker and have the option to work from home. If you need groceries these can usually be ordered from online services such as Amazon Fresh, Walmart, etc. whom all provide the option to deliver to your door. If you usually go to the store to collect medication consider alternatives services that deliver to your home.

  1. Wear Mask & Gloves

If you leave your home always wear gloves and a mask. The most popular mask used against coronavirus are particulate respirators N95, N99 or N100. N95 is the most ideal for everyday use, N99 and N100 are much more difficult to breathe in therefore will not be ideal if you are doing any sort of activity. Surgical masks are also a viable option as particulate respirators may be in short supply and difficult to obtain, these are the blue masks that you often see in hospitals worn by doctors. If surgical masks are also out of stock then the next best thing is to use any sort of cloth to cover your mouth and nose such as a scarf or handkerchief.

Note: Masks should be worn by everyone as it stops the spread of the virus. If you don’t have the virus it reduces the chance of you getting it by providing you with a layer of protection. It also reduces the chance of an asymptomatic patient from spreading it to others without realising they are infected.

  1. Social Distancing (6ft)

Once you are out of your house you are increasing your risk of contracting coronavirus. What we now need to do is take additional precautions to limit your exposure as masks and gloves only help reduce the chance of getting the virus it does not prevent it. The CDC (Centres for Disease Control & Prevention) recommends that social distancing, quarantine an isolation is key in reducing the spread of COVID-19. They guidelines recommend that people should stay at least 6 feet from other people, do not gather in groups and stay away from crowded places.

  1. Wash Hands

As soon as you get home you should dispose of your gloves and wash your hands with soap for 2 minutes or a sanitizer before you touch anything, you do not want to run the risk of spreading the virus to other members of your family. If you visit common areas in your apartment complex such as a trash room, you should extend this to washing your face or taking a shower.

  1. Self-Quarantine

Make sure that you self-quarantine yourself for at least 21 days if you have been in contact with anyone who has had symptoms of coronavirus such as high fever and a dry cough. If you start to get any of these symptoms or feel unwell seek medical advice immediately and try and get yourself tested.

  1. I’m really tired of this whole thing, we should have done exactly what Sweden did and let the younger less vulnerable contract it, and protect the sick and elderly. That way it would have run it’s course quickly, and no second waves. Now we locked everyone up, when they start socializing again it will be iffy, and could result in another wave of infections. This is the way we handle the seasonal flu, we know how to do it. It’s inevitable some are going to die, you can’t help that. That’s the facts of life. It seems to me people think they can outsmart nature. We haven’t been able to yet.
